On Tuesday 29th. September 2009 the first Writers’ Slam was held at La Saletta cafe in Fareham’s West Street – near the Red Lion public house.

Sponsored by Fareham Writers – a group of diverse individuals with a passion for creative writing - the format is borrowed from Cafelit, which is well established in some parts of the capital, and it is intended to be repeated on the last Monday of each month.  Anyone can turn up and read a piece of their favourite poetry or a poem or prose that they have composed themselves, or just sit and listen whilst enjoying a glass of wine or light snack.  The pleasure is derived from hearing original work by local writers.  There is no judging and absolutely no pressure.

On the inaugural meeting a discerning audience heard short stories by local writers and some poetry readings by established poets as well as some by local amateurs and some readings of light verse.

The next meeting of CafeLit is Monday 26th July

Doors open at 7.30pm, readings start at 8.00pm
