. THE SECOND KISS

With their egg sandwiches and flask of hot tea, the elderly couple sat down on a park bench to watch the birds and enjoy the late autumn sunshine.

“Only three weeks now to our golden anniversary my love.” said Arthur.

“Yes.” said Nanci. Glancing at her husband His aged face was transformed by her fond memories of their youth, to that of  the handsome young soldier with whom she had fallen in love.  “After 60 years, I suppose it's time you knew my little secret.” she said giving her Arthur's hand a little squeeze.

“Now what secret would that be?”

“Well, as you know, when Katarina and I arrived in England, like a lot of the Hugarian refugees we didn't have any papers. We didn't have many clothes either, so we shared what we had. Being identical twins was fun.” said Nansi unable to resist a little smile.

“So you shared boyfriends as well?” suggested Arthur.

“Well, yes..... How did you know?

          “Hmm....just a guess?”

“Anyway....” continued Nancsi  “Although you started by dating my sister, you courted both of us for a month or so, until I told her that you were the boy I wanted to marry. So we swapped names and here we are.”

“I knew that.” said Arthur with a chuckle

“How?” asked Nancsi in an almost disappointed tone.

Arthur leant over and gave his wife a gentle peck on the cheek.

“From our first date and my first kiss from your sister, it felt so good that I used to keep my head forward hoping for a second, but she never ever gave me one,...... but you always did.”
