‘I feel a bit like a member of a vintage car club, exhibiting my 1600cc 1968 Ford Capri next to more prestigious marques. Nevertheless, I enjoy it and have been made to feel very welcome by the Fareham Writers.’

  Regardless of nationality, dedicated professional hairdressers are a mix of craftsman, social worker, stand-up comedian and confidant. I was one for over  40 years, meeting thousands of people, sharing countless hours of interesting conversation and many amusing stories. I wrote down many of the stories, and it was this cacophony of scribbling that inspired me to attempt to start writing when I had to retire.

  I was invited to join the Fareham writers only six months ago, but have already found enough discipline to produce a reasonable 1200 word story in a set time, something that I have always had a problem with in the past.

  To my surprise, I find myself enjoying any critiques that I receive and try to take all the constructive criticism on board in an attempt to improve my writing.
